STUNTS: The decision came not from myself, but from friends who have been riding with me for some years. On almost every trip you could count on myself to spice up the journey, example; by ditching the ex-wife on to a friends bike, then pulling mega heart stopping wheelies through traffic on a CBR 1000, passing all the coaches which happened to be full of tourists visiting Blackpool at the time.
Then came BRIDGE JUMPING. Yes that's right, two people standing on the crest of two bridges just outside of Preston, then full throttle to see who could reach the other peak without touching tarmac, good fun but fork oil everywhere.
Early days included screaming machines at max rev in every gear (are you getting exited, don't), it was only a Suzi GP100 until it went bang and lots of aluminium came out of the back, "Oops" hot spots don't you just hate them. Then having blown the piston, you have to get home, so a 30 foot tow rope donated by a farm in the middle of the night came in very handy. At the age of 17, I thought it was legal to tow a bike with a bike and my friend also thought it was legal to tow me through a red light @ 50mph, bear in mind it was sort of green when he was going through it.
I then progressed to attempting stoppies and donuts and blowing out tyres which was only possible due to the fact the lads at the 2 wheel tyre centre in Birmingham felt sorry for me and gave me a back tyre as the one on my bike resembled a cloth.
Looking back at some early stuff I can see now how things are coming together, lots of piccies and video footage which has been compiled along the way has shown how much fun you can really have by going ballistic for the public when your out "playing on your bike".
As the years rolled by the bikes got bigger and my friends came to realise that maybe, just maybe, there might be something going on in my head. CORRECT! It has taken many years of hard graft to get the bikes I have wanted and now having the time to practice what I used to attempt back then and also having some powerful machines it has only recently become possible to go for it.
Within the last 6 months I have decided to give it a go, try to be one of the best stunt riders around.
Not having any sponsorship at first is really hard, paying for all your bits and bobs can be really tough on the old wallet, so if there is anybody out there who would like to lend a helping hand, then I would love to hear from you.
FRIENDS: i.e. THE LADS
GARY MOLYNUEX: Bezzy mate since age of 7, (helped me with one of my first bikes) more of a brother to me.
PAUL: (A.K.A. PEACOCK, BLOBBY, NEV): This is one person with a lot of nick names and a sense for danger, he will do anything on the bikes with me, basically the guy is a raving NUTTER such as myself.
PHIL TAYLOR: Long time friend from Birmingham, you would have seen him at Anglesey Mona show ground hanging on for dear life at his first time attempt at being a stunt dummy, he's a good lad with nerves of steel.
PHIL: (A.K.A. BIG PHIL): He rides a big bike as he is a big lad (rumour has it). A sensible lad who has a go at stunts but we found his true ambition, the world's best cameraman.
THANKS: i.e. People who believe in me and have helped me to go for it.
DEREK & GLENN ROGERS: t/a CHAPMAN'S GARAGE 4b Dock Road, Connahs Quay, Deeside, CH5-4DS tel: 01244 830431. Degsy the M.O.T Master and Glenn the master sprayer kindly worked their fingers to the bone prepping and spraying my latest bike in time for Christmas. TA guys couldn't have done it without you.
BIG THANKS to: TREVOR BAIRD, one of the top men at MAG SPORT for all his help and acknowledgement in getting me noticed and putting me in touch with all the right people, such as Gary and Gill and all the MAG organisers at the recent event in Anglesey. Cheers for the web page Trev!
Now the MISSUS - SON - DAUGHTER: What can I say, but the only lady in my life who has really supported me in all that I do 110%. Her name is Trish, we met 4 years ago and she had never been on the back of a bike before, until I said, "TRUST ME", and would you believe it, she did!! And from that day on she preferred 2 wheels to 4 (or should I say 1 wheel 'cause she is as crazy as I am)!! We married in July 2000. Leathers at home, so wheelies in her wedding dress went down a storm with the guests!! She also plays a large roll in the shows as her "No Fear" attitude means she will try just about anything on the bike placing her life in my hands…. I did say she could trust me!! (Mad Woman!)
She also provided me with the best little fella any Dad could ask for his name "SAM JNR." Already at the age of 19 months he has performed in the living room, the kitchen and even sliding down the stairs putting on his display of bike stunts on his plastic rocker bike and wheelies, burnout's and stoppies in the street on his 12-volt Kwak! (Admittedly with the help of a good set of stabilisers and Dad!) He also won the hearts of the crowds when he appeared on the petrol tank at the show in Anglesey. Watch out for him in the up and coming years…
